Merсedes 190 SL 1959
This matching numbers 1959 190SL has been fully restored in an original combination of DB180 Silver Grey Metallic with a red interior and has completed only a few hundred test kilometers since then.
During extensive restoration, following work has been carried out:
Body – completely disassembled and cleaned to bare metal, following the replacement of all defective body parts with new ones. Afterwards body was prepared and painted with DB180 Silver Grey Metallic according to the “Standox for Classics” technology, including two double layer clear coats and a final polishing with a ceramic coating. Underbody coated with a stonechip protection layer, that has been overpainted grey as per factory. All of the chromed parts have been either re-plated or replaced with new ones.
Suspension – completely disassembled and cleaned of dirt, paint and rust. Painted by a mix of powder coating and a two-stage paint, galvanization of all the necessary parts. Replacement of all bearings, bushings and shock absorbers for a brand new ones.
Brake system includes new hydraulic lines and hoses, brake linings, master brake and wheel cylinders. Brake drums and booster have been disassembled, inspected and restored replacing worn parts, including new diaphragm and hydraulic cylinder for the booster.
Electrical system – brand new wiring harness and engine electrics, including electronic ignition distributor by 123 ignition. Period correct Blaupunkt radio with optional wooden speaker box trimmed to fit the interior. Brand new European specification front and rear lights, with added hazard warning signal. Additional electric cooling fan, manually controllable from interior, for the added safety in case of a traffic jam in a hot summer’s day.
Engine and gearbox – completely disassembled and cleaned with ultrasound. Block and head fully machined – repair size Mahle pistons, polished crankshaft, new bearings and gaskets all over. Valve train fully restored, including new valves and seats, rocker arms and a chain with all the gears and guides. Fuel system include things like new fuel tank and mechanical fuel pump, paired with overhauled original Solex carburettors. 4-speed mechanical gearbox treated with a full rebuild, including new bearings, synchro-rings, gaskets and any other worn out components.
Interior – all of the dashboard dials have been fully rebuilt by VDO specialists and calibrated for precision indication. All the interior materials are an original specification from a well-known manufacturers as MAH and Hans Reinke. Car is supplied with an optional third seat and a set of OEM design suitcases, trimmed to match the interior.
To achieve the best possible result and make the car look as close as possible to original, all the parts used in a restoration is a well tested mix of original Mercedes-Benz spare parts and an OEM quality aftermarket suppliers, such as ATE, Bosch, Mahle, Bilstein, etc.
